Recreation players are responsible for ordering their jerseys from Lloyd's Soccer. Registration fees have been adjusted to reflect this ordering system. Players will ONLY need to purchase a NAVY jersey for the season. If players already have a NAVY jersey from Fall 2023 or Spring 2024, they do not need to purchase a new jersey. You can find details for ordering jerseys under Lloyd's Soccer: Jersey Order Information on the Recreation page. *Please note that players registered through The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club and El Centro will not be responsible for ordering their jerseys through Lloyd's (this will be completed by TYSA and the partner organization).

**Parents & guardians will have the option to indicate interest in a U8 Pre-Academy team during registration. During the Fall 2024 season, we will offer one U8 Boys and one U8 Girls Pre-Academy team. These players will practice twice per week (as opposed to once per week for all other recreation teams) and in addition to playing other recreation teams, they will have additional opportunities to play during the season. Indicating interest in this program is not a committment but will allow TYSA staff to reach out individually to parents/guardians to answer any questions and confirm their player will or will not play on a Pre-Academy team. This is at no extra cost and is intended to provide U8 players with Academy-level training in a recreation program environment.

Note: Players can play up or down a division depending on maturity, experience, and preference - this list is intended as a guide for parents and guardians to view prior to registration. Reach out to Caitlyn Murray at [email protected] if you would like your child to play in a different division than the division available in our system.

Practice Details

U8-U16 teams will have one practice each week for one hour at the Transylvania County soccer fields (1078 Ecusta Rd, Brevard, NC 28712). Volunteer coaches choose their practice day and time prior to the season. Due to this, we ask that all registrants for these divisions include any scheduling conflicts for practices. We cannot guarantee that your child will be moved to another team if they are placed on a team whose practice conflicts with their schedule. Most coaches choose Tuesday/Thursday for practice days, between 4:30-6:30pm.

Game Details

All games will start at either 9AM or 10:15AM, with the exception of our opening day, September 7th. Games will start at 8:30AM and 9:45AM on September 7th. The schedule for the season will be released by August 19th to all participants.

Season Dates

  • August 17th: We are excited to announce a U.S. Soccer Coach for Community Program session will be facilitated by NCYSA from 10AM-12PM at the Transylvania County Parks and Recreation soccer fields (1078 Ecusta Rd, Brevard, NC 28712). The goal is to connect member associations with local soccer leaders to help create better player environments, which will increase player participation as well as retain players and coaches. Participants have the opportunity to learn from a US Soccer Licensed Instructor who can provide expertise in Grassroots Coaching Education as well as share best practices on player development initiatives and for creating a player-centered environment.
  • August 26th: Practices begin this week for divisions U8 and up as long as teams have coaches, coaches have completed their SafeSport training and background check, and confirmed a practice day, time, and field.
  • September 7th: First game day
  • October 26th: Last game day
  • November 2nd & 9th: Make-up games (games will be held on these dates if there are cancelations for weather or other conflicts)

Division Details

KinderKix and U6 will not meet during the week for practice. They will meet every Saturday for the 8 week season. Kinder Kix will practice for 30 minutes, then scrimmage for 15 minutes. KinderKix will likely be split into groups of 10 or less, depending on registration. U6 will be split into individual coed teams and will practice for 30 minutes, then scrimmage for 30 minutes. We will provide practice plans to all the coaches before the season begins.

U8-U16 will be placed on a team and their Head Coach will contact them with their practice and game schedule. Practices will be for 60 minutes, once/week with one game scheduled every Saturday for 8 weeks. Depending on registration and volunteers, we will tentatively have a U8/U10 Girls league (playing other girls teams and U8 Boys teams), U12 will be split into individual coed teams, and U14/16 will engage in pool play (one large coed group practicing together and split into even teams on Saturdays).

Volunteers are needed as Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches & Team Parents!

Head Coaches are required and Assistant Coaches are encouraged to attend our Coaches Clinic where they will receive their team rosters, practice plans, equipment, reserve their practice field, and any other support they need to make this a fun and positive learning experience for everyone! Head Coaches will either receive free registration for any children playing recreational soccer during Fall 2024 OR a $50 Visa Gift Card at the end of the season after turning in all of their equipment as a THANK YOU from TYSA!

Recreation Program

TYSA'S RECREATION PROGRAM

With an emphasis on fun and participation, our recreational division is the ideal environment for most kids. This program is the entry point for children who are new to the game. Experienced players who desire a more competitive environment should consider our TYSA Academy program (click HERE for more information about our Academy program). In recreation, we use fun games to develop basic skills, such as ball control and dribbling, and to further players' enjoyment of the game.
Recreational soccer is coached by volunteers who are equipped and supported by the organization and will receive communications from the program director with important information and weekly practice sessions throughout the season. Our coaches use a curriculum made up of fun and developmentally appropriate practice activities. Fall season runs from mid-September to early November and our spring season runs from early March to mid-May.

JERSEY ORDERING DETAILS & FAQS

R
e
creation players are responsible for ordering their jerseys from Lloyd's Soccer through the TYSA Spirit Store page. Registration fees have been adjusted to reflect this new ordering system. Players will ONLY be responsible for purchasing a NAVY jersey, and they do not need to purchase another one if they still have one from a previous season. *Players registered through The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club and El Centro will not be responsible for ordering their jerseys through Lloyd's (this will be completed by TYSA and the partner organization).
Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions regarding jersey orders.

FAQs

Which jersey do I need to buy for my child?
All divisions: 1 NAVY jersey (individual teams will wear pinnies)

What is the cost of each jersey?
Each jersey is $15 via Lloyd's soccer. If you are not able to buy jerseys for your child, please reach out to [email protected]. Our mission is to serve any child, regardless of socioeconomic status, through our programs, and any email requests we receive to waive the jersey fee will be confidential.

Who does not have to order jerseys?
Players who participated in a previous recreation program season can wear the NAVY jersey from a previous season, and any jersey ordered for this spring season can be used for subsequent seasons. Players registered through El Centro and The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County are not required to order their jerseys - TYSA will place a bulk order for these players prior to the season.

When do I need to order my jerseys to receive them for the Spring 2024 season?
Jerseys should be ordered at least two weeks (14 days) before the start of the season (September 16th, 2023) in order to receive them by the first game day.

Why is TYSA requiring families to order jersey for players?
TYSA is a small non-profit with one staff member coordinating the recreation program for approximately 300 players each season. This will significantly reduce the legwork required in ensuring each player receives their jersey, and Lloyd's Soccer has made the process simple to order jerseys.
