The three main levels of play in North Carolina under NCYSA are Recreation, Challenge, and Classic.
TYSA Recreation League - Emphasis is on fun, teamwork and player development.
All coaches are volunteers and attempt to allow each player to participate
50% of each game attended (barring injury, illness and/or discipline issues).
TYSA attempts to keep player fees as low as possible while providing a
quality and safe experience. Currently, TYSA Recreation league play is
in the Fall Season of each year and registration runs from May through
August. Age Divisions include Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under
14 and Under 17.
TYSA Challenge League - One step up from recreation
play, teams travel within an area of about 100 miles/2 hours. Emphasis
is on increasing knowledge of the game, game experience, competition,
and travel opportunities. The cost of playing in this league is usually
a bit higher than Recreation. After playing in the Fall Recreation League,
tryouts are held to select players. Anyone interested in playing Challenge
soccer should email TYSA Travel Director, slawing@harrisarch.com
or call 884-7157.
TYSA Classic League - At the most competitive level,
teams selectively recruit players ages 10 and older on the basis of talent
or abilty to travel and play across the state. NCYSA schedules all games
and the cost of playing is usually higher than Challenge League. TYSA
does not currently have any Classic League teams. Teams may be formed
depending on player and parent interest. For more information, check out
